Assignment 23

http://www.collegeboard.com/student/plan/starting-points/156.html

This is a short but helpful article I found dealing with reasons why college is worth the money, time and effort. This will help me add a couple ideas to my paper about the purpose of getting people to enroll in college regardless of the high costs. In the article it gives reasons to go to college, and answers to the worries of people who dont think they can do it as far as too expensive or too hard.

Assignment 21

-Robert B. Archibald. Explaining Increases in Higher Education Costs. The Journal of Higher Education Volume 79, Number 3, May/June 2008 pp. 268-295.

This is a very good article for my project because the author uses many different theories on rising college costs to produce his own theories and views on it. I could definitely include anything in here that I agree with to add into my project.

-Broad, Molly Corbett. Endowments Are Both Vital and Misunderstood. Chronicle of Higher Education 11/21/2008, Vol. 55 Issue 13, pA32-A32.

This article could benefit me as it talks about how institutions should be more concerned with helping students pay for college and it includes a survey about it that the author had made.

-Wang, Penelope. Ease the Tuition Squeeze. Money Apr2009, Vol. 38 Issue 4, p82-87

This article could be of use to me because it goes over different ways that a student can make college more affordable to them. This will help out my paper because I would like to have more information about this to add because I want to focus on getting more people to attend college even though it is expensive.

-Martin, Robert . Why Tuition Costs Are Rising So Quickly. This new article I found for my research project will help me go beyond the statistics of rising college costs that I've been using for most of my writing, and give me ideas as to why this problem is happening. A couple reasons he gives is that higher education isn't getting enough public support, and how the costs of both instructors and new technologies needed leads to higher costs for the students to pay towards college. This article I think will lend me a lot more ideas for my paper after I analyze it a bit more.

This article also deals with the why question rather than stats, so it is good I have a couple good places to look for this information. It talks in here about how inflation is affecting the price rises. As the costs of the institution rises, the tution costs have to rise with it. It also refers this resaon as the "Consumer Price Index."
